The city sites include a few museums, the Gurji Mosque and a U.S. Army cemetery that dates from World War II. Spend some time walking along the harbour to see the Roman Arch of Marcus Aurelius (AD 163) the Turk and Al Mushir suqs. There are also some excellent beaches just outside the city.

Tripoli’s old town is still unspoilt by mass-tourism, though it is increasingly being exposed to more and more visitors from abroad, following the lifting of the UN embargo in 2003.

The climate is typical Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers, cool winters and some modest rainfall.

Great Roman ruins can be visited as day trips, include Sabratha and Leptis Magna.

Tripoli International Airport serves Tripoli, Libya. It is operated by the Civil Aviation and Meteorology Bureau of Libya and is the nation's largest airport. Located in the town of Ben Ghashir 34 km south of the city centre.Tripoli International is a hub for Libyan Airlines,the airport is also base for Afriqiyah Airways and Buraq Air.

Most flights leave Tripoli International Airport from the main International Passenger Terminal, while domestic flights leave through the National Terminal.

Libyan Airlines operates most of the weekly departures from the airport - 98 flights. Transport to and from Tripoli city centre usually involves taking a taxi. Tour operators offer coaches to and from the airport connecting it with numerous hotels in the city centre.
