Misratah
Misratah
Misratah, also known as Misrata or Misurata is the third largest city in Libya after Tripoli and Benghazi. This city has a different feel to most others, with its well-ordered streets and, remarkably for Libya, 'no smoking' signs in many buildings.

In ancient times, Misratah was an important port for the trade in goods and people from Sahara. Its carpet industry is one of the longest standing on Libya. Misratah has always been something of and administrative centre and was cosidered the second city in Turkish Tripolitania. Its modern wealth is due in part to the steel mill that has been built near the town.
